A Romantic Charleston Wedding at Magnolia Plantation

Hope Helmuth

The sun was shining and the gardens where all in bloom.  A heavenly breeze carried the scent of jasmine and lilac through the air at Magnolia Plantation.  It was a glorious day to photograph our charming Carolina editorial.

Our bride wore a romantic BHLDN gown layered in tulle with a touch of soft lace.  The plunging neckline gave this whimsical gown a sultry twist. Pampered and Pretty topped this look off with a glowing blush pallet. The rich berry lip was the perfect shade for this modern day bride.

Magnolia Plantation is truly something out of a novel.  The grounds where bursting with color on this warm afternoon.  The Spanish moss cascaded in the light creating a painterly backdrop.

Charleston Flower Girl created the most stunning arrangements.  The soft pretty colors where contrasted with deep shades of mauve. A hint of pale blue brought this story to life.  The flowers complimented this gorgeous location in the best way possible!

We ended our day on a bridge reminiscent of a real life Monet painting.  This wonderful vendor team brought my vision to life. Charleston is an absolute dream in the spring.

Colorful Retro Elopement Inspiration in Philadelphia

Hope Helmuth

Claire Eliza of Bridal Musings -

“A feathered mini-dress, badass bridal jumpsuit, colorful florals & retro vibes? Uh please, we are so smitten with this groovy take on elopement style photographed by Hope Helmuth. Set in the swanky Philadelphia restaurant Louie Louie, we find our vintage dream bride dressed mod in her BHLDN mini dress made fabulous in feathers. With a glamorous ballerina bun, dramatic lashes & punch-bowl colored bouquet she’s a vision in mid-century cool.

The florals & design, too, show off the retro flair of this charming space. A colorful & thoroughly modern bouquet are brought into the age thanks to a bold black ribbon (bringing your eyes to the vintage tiled floors). Stationery & signage provide even more statements of nostalgia thanks to bold typeface and contrasts of black.

From Hope Helmuth Photography: Palm trees, marble and groovy fur-galore! Our elopement inspiration took place at a trendy new French bistro in Philadelphia, PA. When I dreamt up this shoot I wanted the story to be bursting with colors and warm vibrant hues. Our photoshoot ironically fell on the day that Pantone announced coral, the color of the year.

Becky from Ram Florals made all of our psychedelic flower dreams come true! The arrangements incorporated bold colors with a dash of festive pink poinsettia. We drew a lot of inspiration from the posh interiors of Louie Louie.

I really wanted our bride to have a Brigitte Bardot, French Riviera vibe. Kelly Hursh created a nostalgic updo reminiscent of an early Jane Birkin look. This beauty inspo was completed with a soft retro lavender eye by Shimmer and Spice.

City of Lights

Hope Helmuth

Looking back on a trip with old friends in new places.

Travel Diary: Paris, France

Paris in the spring is always a good idea. The romance, music and smell of fresh pastries in the air. It’s always even more hard to leave. I took the time on this trip to photograph the people I met along the way.

The Eternal City

Hope Helmuth

In 2012 I hopped on a flight to Rome Italy by myself. I was a naive and ecstatic 21 year old visiting Europe for the first time. I stayed a month with one of my oldest friends, Ariana. I have been lucky enough to revisit this magical city. Here is a little trip down memory lane.

The New Way to Wear Florals

Hope Helmuth

In honor of Spring, today I am revisiting one of my favorite projects! This collaboration features some of my favorite local vendors!

Words by Lauren Hartman of Trousseau Style: “Bridal trends have come and gone, but flowers have adorned a bride’s wedding look for centuries. In ancient Roman times, bride’s carried bunches of fresh herbs to symbolize fidelity and fertility (and to ward away evil spirits). And we all know the tradition of the bride tossing her bouquet at the end of the ceremony for good luck. But recently, it’s not just about the bouquet,  flowers have become an important part of the bride’s look. From flower crowns to floral lace, we’re talking about some of the newest bridal trends.

It’s hard to resist soft petals and fragrant blooms, but there’s a new trend in town! Branches introduce an interesting element that isn’t usually found at weddings - the wild roughness of the great outdoors. When paired with soft tulle and lace in makes a fresh and undeniable combination. Use branches in your bouquet, floral ring, or hair piece for a rustic look.

The Cathedral Veil has recently made a huge comeback, and for good reason! At 108 to 120 inches, it’s often longer than the dress train, making a dramatic statement when walking down the aisle. Fresh cascading flowers add even more drama and is perfect for the traditional, yet boho bride. Opt for all white flowers or petals for a more traditional look.

The new flower crown has arrived! Instead of going with a traditional flower crown, brides can wear a lush blossom hair piece. The bride can choose the area to feature, be it the front, back or side of the head. It’s perfect for bride’s wanting to achieve a naturally dramatic look. Don’t be too particular about the placement, it’s meant to look and feel out-of-the-wild!

Among the most traditional trends is floral lace. Lace has long been considered a bridal staple because of it’s inherently delicate nature and steep price tag. Traditionally, the trimmings of bridal lace was handed down through generations to brides in the family. More recently, this tradition has become popular as bride’s use their lace from a family member’s veil and or dress. Don’t have any heirloom lace? No problem! Start a tradition of your own!

NYC Elopement Wedding Photography Inspiration in Central Park

Hope Helmuth

Our NYC elopement story was inspired by Romeo and Juliet. We wanted to bring a simplistic twist to and old world romance. We captured our fine art inspired couple at the iconic Bethesda Terrace. The leaves where just beginning to change on this autumn day in Central Park.

We incorporated bold shades of rouge into this timeless black and white pallet. Our brides "something blue" was an old book of poems. Our newly weds ended their day with classic literature by candlelight.

Romantic Art Deco Wedding Inspiration

Featured here on Engaged Life

“I have been dreaming of a moody festive shoot for some time. When we heard a new Lokal Hotel was opening in the Fishtown neighborhood of Philadelphia, this vision automatically came to mind. With an art deco flair, we incorporated metallic details and mixed metals for an old meets new vibe. Our goal was to mix 1920’s prohibition with a modern hip edge. Re+Bloom Couture Florals really set the mood with a warm and vibrant color palette. My favorite part of the story was our geometric bar wall from Vision Furniture and Events Rentals with signs by Caitlin Jane Calligraphy. What better way to ring in the New Year then with local craft spirits, old fashion cocktails, and the most delicious and beautiful cake and cookies by Nutmeg Cake Design? Our vendor team really brought the sparkle and made this vision come to life.“

Our Honeymoon in Italy

Hope Helmuth

On June 4th Joe and I flew to Italy for our honeymoon. We began our trip on the Amalfi Coast outside the village of Praiano. The Grand Tritone Hotel was pure magic stuck in time. From there we explored the island of Capri, Rome and Venice. All images are taken by Hope Helmuth Photography on portra 400 & ektar 100 Kodak 120 film.

A Scotland Inspired Jewel Toned Wedding

Hope Helmuth

Lauren and Paul’s wedding took place at the Shawnee Inn in the Pocono Mountains. The jewel toned details brought a vibrant, colorful twist to this serene location.  The day had an adventurous energy reminiscent of a Wes Anderson film.

This whimsical event was also full of Scottish influence.  The groom proposed to the bride in the lush & beautiful Scottish highlands. We went to a Celtic inspired outdoor sanctuary for a very heartfelt first look.  The couple also made sure to incorporate a ribbon tradition in their picturesque ceremony.

This high-spirited wedding came to a close with a piñata being torn apart as bohemian rhapsody played into the night.

Modern Autumn Maternity Session

Hope Helmuth

We dreamt up this autumn maternity shoot when we heard that beautiful Rebecca was pregnant.  I wanted to take a unique approach to this session by incorporating warm fall colors in an industrial studio environment.  Allium Floral knew exactly what I meant when I described this dreamy & modern vision.   Vibrant rich florals and sweet hydrangea framed the linen vintage couch.  The wispy dried greenery was the perfect touch to this November photoshoot.

The Sugary provided us with a luscious little cake perfect for the upcoming holidays.  Rebecca brought along some heartfelt details as well as her shower invitation.  With snowy hills outside, this was truly a festive maternity shoot.
