As engagement season is quickly approaching, I thought it would be fun to share something a little different with you this week. Welcome to the start of my Engagement Session Guides.
I love helping clients plan unique and intentional engagement sessions. I’ve found that over the last ten years in the wedding industry, most clients have the same questions. Let’s start with number one on my list, shall we?
Aesthetic
Once we’ve decided on a date (I like to schedule engagement sessions approximately 6-8 months before the wedding), it’s important to dig deeper. Let’s consider another question before jumping into locations and what you’ll wear.
How do I want my session and images to feel?
Do you want a fun and carefree engagement session? Are the two of you playful and easygoing? Or are you more introspective and quiet in the way you show affection? Knowing these answers will ensure your engagement session is enjoyable for both of you. No more dragging your fiancé along for the ride.
A Note on Drawing Inspiration
While pulling together ideas, it can be easy to fall into the Pinterest scroll. It’s tempting to start immediately pinning images to recreate. I’d love to offer another perspective.
While it’s a beautiful tool that can help you curate your style and favorite capsule wardrobe for your next Europe trip, diving deep into why you’re drawn to particular imagery is essential.
That beautiful nostalgic image of a couple embracing a park speaks to you. Why? Is it the emotion? Do you love the mood of the image? Is it how you can see the movement of her skirt as he pulls her in close after a twirl, even in a still image?
Asking yourself to look deeper into why you’re pulled to something might be the best way to create something unique and beautiful of your own. Plus, you’ll leave with more than just a gallery of beautiful portraits. You’ll also have beautiful memories from such a special time in your lives!
Be sure to keep an eye out for the next post in the series. Any guesses on what we will cover next?
